There probably isn’t a poker player that has entered the poker scene with as much mystery and attention from the online poker world as did Isildur1 (Viktor Blom) several years ago. He began multi-tabling poker tables playing a very aggressive near maniac style at Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.
Ilsidur1 took poker fans on a roller-coaster ride of entertainment, he actually made rail-birding high stakes poker games entertaining, in fact, he made it worth recording! The moment a match involving him began, the chat windows filled up, twitter went wild, Facebook posts reported his presence and the poker world waited to watch the swings.
Ivey took a good sized bite out of Isildur1’s bankroll, winning more than $300k from the young pro during one match. Days later, he was back over a million in profits after a good session with Patrik Antonius. During one part of that session, Isildur1 was up over $1.7 million, Antonius did manage to recover somewhat toward the end of the session.
Brian Hastings breaks Full Tilt’s TOC’s to Take Down Isildur1
Finally, as Brian Hastings admitted in an interview with ESPN, three pro poker players came together to, what some will say was collude, against Isildur1 and take back millions he had won from pro players at Full Tilt. The ‘pro’ poker players gathered all of their hand histories and compared them together, then conference room style made a plan of attack against the poker player that the whole world found themselves rooting for, Viktor Blom. Of course at that time, no one was entirely certain that Isildur1 was Viktor Blom, there was some speculation, but there was speculation that the young pro was several high stakes poker players.
“Hastings had played Isildur1 [Viktor Blom] three times previously so he, Townsend and Cole South conglomerated their hand histories, allowing them to study the mystery man’s playing style.” – ESPN
Hastings went on to admit to all sorts of collusion and wrong doing in the ESPN interview he gave after relieving Viktor Blom’s bankroll of $3,234,543.20 in less than 5 hours.
Break that down and Viktor lost about $646,908.64 for every hour of play that very fateful day.
Not to worry though, Full Tilt Poker took care of the situation, slamming down the iron fist of justice and… removing Hasting’s pro status for a month which, in essence, killed his rakeback deal but still allowed him to play high stakes games on the site, cash-out his ill-gotten gains and go on about his daily life.
Finally Isildur1 Was known as Swedish Poker Player Viktor Blom
Ultimately, it was Blom’s preference for six tabling his opponents, the unrelenting investigation and discussion by 2+2 poker forum members that gave away the secret identity of Viktor Blom shortly after the Card Runners team rolled him for a little more than $4million dollars. The poker community online was fairly certain that Viktor Blom was indeed isildur1 who, by the way, took his username from the movie Lord of the Rings.
During the latter part of 2010, PokerStars and isildur1 shocked the online poker community again by announcing isildur1 as the newest Team PokerStars member.
Finally, in a fabulous marketing move, in 2011 PokerStars unveiled the true identity of isildur1 at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. In August 2012 Viktor left PokerStars and in October 2012 it was announced he would be one of the Professionals on the newly launched Full Tilt Poker.
So Now That We Know His Name, Just Who is Viktor Blom?
Viktor’s a 22 year old poker guru who’s from Rånäs, Stockholm län in Sweden that first played poker under another screen name, blom90. He used that screen name on Party Poker as well as on the iPoker Network. According to Blom, at age 18 he made a $2k deposit into his account on an iPoker site, and turned that $2k into $1.5 million within a couple of weeks.
The iPoker network wasn’t where Blom played his first hand of poker though, the young poker pro first played the game at age 14 among friends. Blom and his friends would play friendly home type games. He figured out he had a talent and he quickly learned how to use that talent to his advantage. He also learned quickly that the people he played against had trouble dealing with his very aggressive playing style, a style that would make him a millionaire before he could legally drink liquor in some countries.
