Review
- New to the Game tables
- Highly recommended site
- Best Online Poker Software
- Under New Management
Full Tilt Poker has had a rather eventful existence. This online poker room was created in 2004 and experienced rapid growth through its introductory years to become one of the world’s leading online poker rooms. However, in 2011 after “Black Friday” hit the United States, we saw sites like Ultimate Bet, Absolute Poker and even Full Tilt Poker shut down and become unavailable to players. The CEO of Full Tilt Poker, along with founders of other online poker sites, was indicted by federal authorities on charges of bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling activities.
The only way the poker room would be able to re-launch outside of the US market was if all non-US players had their funds reimbursed and a company purchased Full Tilt. Fortunately, PokerStars stepped up to the plate and made a deal with the DOJ to acquire FTP. After successfully re-launching it in late 2012 many players returned to the site to celebrate its re-launch and it quickly regained its market position as the world’s second largest poker site.
The newly launched online poker room is licensed and regulated in the Isle of Man. One of the unique characteristics of FTP is the group of professional poker players that play exclusively on the site, as a result of this it was the first poker room to offer extremely high-stake games. Although some of the old faces have left, the new Full Tilt was quick to sign Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan and Viktor Blom. These players are some of the best players in the poker world and will represent Team Full Tilt Poker, which are dubbed “The Professionals” so you can expect to see plenty more high stakes action.
There is always a lot of traffic at this site – the most recent statistics showed around 15,000 real money players at peak hours with the majority of traffic to be found at the No-Limit Hold’em games but plenty other game types have considerable traffic as well.
There is a plethora of great promotions offered at FTP. Players can earn points for cash play and tournament buy-ins. Also, there are reload bonuses that are offered from time to time, make sure to visit the promotions page to keep up to date on the latest promos.
Cash Games
- Minimum Blinds: 1c / 2c
- Maximum Blinds: $2000 / $4000
- Standard seats: 2, 5, 6 and 9.
- Options: Rush Poker, Capped Tables, Run it Twice, Deep Stack, Shallow Stack, Heads Up.
- Games: Texas Holdem, Omaha, Omaha Hi / lo, Stud, Draw, Irish and Mixed Games.
There are more games offered here then you would know what to do with. Everyone by now probably knows how to play Hold’em. There are many other games that are fun, why not give them a try? You can even play for free until you are comfortable with any type of poker variant. These ring games are currently offered: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, Razz, and Mixed Games.
The stakes can vary quite a bit to meet the needs of each player. No Limit games begin with blinds as low as $.01/$.02 and can go up to $500/$1000. Fixed limit games start at $.05/$.10 and can up to $2000/$4000. Finally, you can find Pot Limit games going around the clock. Full Tilt was the first to offer fast fold poker but, beware, Rush Poker is high speed and mega intense.
Tournaments
- Lowest entry: 1c
- Highest entry: $2500
- Usual starting stack: 1500
- Usual level increments: 10 minutes
- Buy-in fee: 10% included
- Options: Steps, Turbo, Super Turbo and New to Game.
I would highly recommend Full Tilt for tournament players as there’s an immense amount of choice, with buy-ins to suit all budgets. Buy-ins can be as small as $1 and can go into the thousands. As can be expected, the larger the buy-in, the more difficult the competition. Full Tilt offers over millions of dollars in guaranteed events each week.
They offer Turbo Sit & Go’s and multi-table tournaments. These are designed to increase the blinds in half the time. In Turbo Sit & Go’s, they increase the blinds every three minutes instead of six. In Turbo Multi-Table tournaments, the blinds go up every five minutes instead of ten. There are also Deep Stack and Super Stack tournaments where you start off with 3,000 chips and 5,000 chips respectively.
In addition, you can find Shootout tournaments. Unlike regular tourneys where players are moved to keep the tables balanced, the winners of each table face off at the final table. If the tournament that interests you is full, you can always join the tournament waiting list.
Sit and Go’s
- Lowest entry: 5c
- Highest entry: $250

The Sit n Go’s at Full Tilt receive a lot of traffic 24/7, there’s a choice of multi-table or single table Sit and Go’s at all levels. With even the high stakes tables starting regularly around the clock.
Loyalty
The Edge Rewards loyalty program awards repeat players every week with a cash payment into their account. As you play in any real money games you’ll accumulate Full Tilt Points and achieve a higher Edge Status, which means higher weekly cash payments.
Once you have gained an Edge of Bronze status or above you can take part in exclusive freerolls with cash prizes.
Software
Full Tilt Poker went to great lengths to develop a quality software product. It is top-notch with numerous customizations, fast game play, and great security. You can expect a very sleek and fun looking poker client. Users can choose from numerous cartoon-like avatars to represent themselves at the table with the ability to express your mood (i.e. happy). Users can also pick between 7 table themes to break away from the same look and feel by right clicking on the table background.
A great feature of the Full Tilt Poker software is the player notes functionality. This feature allows players to jot down notes of their opponents while they are playing. You can further analyse your performance by saving hand history to your computer. This is invaluable to serious players.
There are other features included such as the ability to play 16 tables at one time. The software is not the quickest out there, but it is reliable. This software is both PC and MAC Compatible.
Moving on to the Full Tilt lobby, you will find plenty of table information in an easy to navigate layout. Tables can be sorted by poker game type, hands per hour, limit (i.e. No Limit, Pot Limit), stakes and other categories. The tournament section allows numerous filter options to allow players to specify the type of tournament they are looking for. Such lobbies include information such as blinds, payout structure, stack size and number of players.
A cool feature offered is Happy Hour where you can earn double or even triple Full Tilt Points by finding a smiley face in game and tournament lobbies. This is a quick way to earn player points that can be used to purchase tournament tickets or ring (cash) game tickets.
Advanced functionality includes what is known as the “Time Bank”. This allows players extra time for those tough decisions. Also, Full Tilt Poker allows players to refill their stack at cash games, provides automatic re-buys and also allows players to see an instant replay of hands.
